STYLE SHEET FOR APPLIANCE ENGINEER® AUTHORS
.....................................................................................................................................

APPLIANCE Engineer® is An Exclusive Editorial Service Of Appliance®

Articles published in APPLIANCE ENGINEER® (AE) are written for an appliance-engineering audience. Papers of significant developments in the following technical areas are acceptable for submission:

  • Energy
  • Appliance mechanical and electrical engineering developments
  • Materials
  • Motors
  • Innovative control systems and automation, including hardware and software
  • Appliance engineering management with respect to a new technology that improves the efficiency of a system, process, or end-product

The central theme of an APPLIANCE ENGINEER® article should avoid concentration on a specific proprietary component unless it is a completely new product of which appliance engineers will not receive technical information through sales or advertising sources prior to publication in AE.

Copyrights

APPLIANCE magazine reserves exclusive rights to an article submitted for first-time publishing.

The published material becomes the property of Canon Communications LLC, with Canon Communications LLC owning the copyright.

Submission Requirements

Outline

Authors interested in submitting an article for publication in APPLIANCE ENGINEER should first submit an outline to the AE Editorial Coordinator. The outline should be in the following format:

  • Theme sentence: What is the engineering issue or problem posed in the article?
  • Major points: Detailed discussion points of how this problem is solved.
  • Conclusion: Ramifications to the appliance engineer and the industry.

Both the outline and the manuscript will be reviewed by Editorial Board members, themselves engineers, who are conversant with the material covered, and the author will be notified of their decision.

General Format and Style
Manuscripts should we written in the third person from an impersonal viewpoint, in order to focus the reader’s attention on the subject presented. Supplier company names or trade names for proprietary products or processes may be mentioned only once in the body of the paper.

Copy should be extremely technical, as well as concise and confined to a clear description of the subject matter. BE SPECIFIC - avoid generalities, historical background, and editorial opinion.

Technical papers should include:

(a) title
(b) introduction in the form of a digest or brief summary
(c) the main body of the paper
(d) conclusion
(e) appendices, nomenclatures, or acknowledgments, if required. References at the end of the paper should be kept to a bare minimum.

Graphic Material

Most engineering concepts are best described using charts, graphs, formulas, calculations, photographs, or illustrations. Therefore, graphic material is essential to the topic being discussed.

When graphic material accompanies a manuscript, it must be in one or more of the following formats:

  • Electronic image in TIFF, EPS, or JPEG formats at 300 dpi only*
  • Camera-ready artwork (high-resolution hard copy)
  • Illustrations should be clearly labeled with Figure 1, 2, 3, etc., as they appear in the article. A corresponding caption should be included with each graphic.

* Note: Electronic images cannot be used if they are embedded within the original, electronic document. For graphical material sent by regular mail, be sure to protect the material with cardboard stiffeners or diskette containers.

Article Length

The article should be no longer than 13,000 to 15,000 characters (this includes spaces).

Biographical Sketch

A brief 25-30 word professional biography of the author(s) should accompany the article. Mention major positions held, society affiliations, and references to previously published papers, if any. A color or black and white photo of the author should also accompany the biography.

Submission Procedure

The article should be emailed to the AE Editorial Coordinator.

  • When submitting by e-mail, please send the text as a Microsoft Word attachment (file.doc). Electronic images must be separated from the text. (See Graphic Material paragraph for image guidelines.)

When sending the article, the text should be saved in Microsoft Word or plain text (ASCII). The graphic material should be sent as separate files. (See Graphic Material paragraph for image guidelines.)

Send the article to:
