St. Patrick’s Day is being celebrated this upcoming weekend. While there’s a lot of attention focused on the religious and cultural aspects of the day, we should also remember that the Irish have over the centuries contributed a lot to some of the technology we often take for granted.

While there’s a popular term “The luck of the Irish,” these inventions are due to the talent and perseverance of individuals that happened to be Irish. Wikipedia has an extensive timeline of inventions over the centuries that can be attributed to individuals of Irish descent. Design News is highlighting some of the most notable ones in the following gallery. Quoted sources include the sites of Irish Central and Irisharoundtheworld, as well as Wikipedia.
