What are the requirements for editorial content publication?

Editorial articles and other editorial content must be provided exclusively to Informa Markets Engineering, and contributors must provide a signed agreement before we begin editing a first draft. Articles are published solely online and must be exclusive to Design News. This means that the article cannot be published elsewhere, even on the author's Web site or author's company's web site, past or future.

Articles must be non-promotional. We will mention the author's company in the bio at the end. Design News editors reserve the right to edit author bios.

We look for articles that provide depth and insight into trends and developments. Topics must be relevant to design engineers and the industries we serve. Topics for design articles should center on a specific design issue: how-to, problem solving, etc.

Articles should range in length between 500 to 2500 words.

Editorial articles will be edited for style and content at Informa Markets Engineering editors' discretion. Editorial content is published solely at the discretion of Informa Markets Engineering editors. Informa Markets Engineering is under no obligation to publish the submissions it receives.

Generative AI—including ChatGPT, Bard, and other tools—is an excellent, approved tool for story discovery, research, and other journalistic tasks. However, we do not, at this time, accept editorial content that has been written exclusively by generative AI. We also expect that all content that has leveraged AI in any way—just as with any piece of journalistic content—has been fact checked and verified for accuracy and originality. Contributors should also disclose to what extent generative AI has been used in the development of content they submit. Violation of our AI policy for editorial content will result in a decision to not publish submitted content and/or breach of contract.

All images published by Informa Markets Engineering must be obtained legally and attributed properly. Below are the only sources from which we will accept images:

  • Images or graphics created by the contributor.

  • Emailed press releases, online press centers, and media kits only if it is abundantly clear that the image shown is of that company's own product, facility, or personnel. Follow any instructions provided by the company for crediting images from these sources. If no instructions are provided, default to using the name of the company as the credit.

  • Stock images from Getty Images that we have sourced directly. Contributors should not download images directly but can provide links for editors to download.

  • We do not allow the use of AI-generated images at this time.

How can I obtain the right to license or reuse content that originally appeared on Design News?

For all content licensing, permissions, reprints, or any other re-use, please contact Wright’s Media at [email protected] or put in a request on our landing page.

Please note that Wright’s Media is the only authorized company that we’ve partnered with for Informa materials.
